You are entitled to compensation if pilots or cabincrew are on strike causing the airline to cancel your flight.
You are also entitled to a replacement flight or a refund of your ticket.
What happens if the airline goes on strike?
When strikes cause delays of over 5 hours
If the strike action at the airport brings delays of at least 5 hours, you are legally entitled to withdraw from your flight. In this event you would also be due a refund from the airline, on the provision that you haven’t taken any alternative transportation offered by them.
Can I claim compensation if my flight is Cancelled due to strike?
Compensation is due if you were informed less than 14 days prior to the scheduled departure date. You can’t rebook or claim a refund (unless you have a flexible or refundable ticket) until the dates of the strike are announced and the airline have confirmed your flight will be affected.
Do you get compensation for air strikes?
Under EU law, you’re only entitled to compensation if you hear from the airline less than 14 days from the date you’re due to fly that your flight is cancelled. If the airline warned you of the cancellation at least two weeks prior to your scheduled time of departure, you won’t get compensation but you’ll get a refund.
Does travel insurance cover strikes?
Travel Insurance cover for strikes or industrial action will vary depending on your insurer, however in general your policy should provide cover for travel delay and travel abandonment due to strike action. After the strike has become public knowledge, you won’t be able to buy travel insurance to cover it.
